Apparently I have exceeded the number of allowable tags here on Dreamwidth, and I wondered how on earth I could have done that, and then I remembered -- oh right, I mirrored Daron's Guitar Chronicles here.

And Daron would mostly ironically tag his chapters with whatever he felt like in addition to things like the city he was in at the time, you know, with commentary like "bart is a rock" and "yet another hotel lobby" etc.

So now I have to decide if I should un-tag some of those, or prune them down at least to ones that are used multiple times, since Daron never intended them to be used as navigation devices. Or should I just do without tags now? I guess if I actually get into the habit of posting more, I will have to figure that out.

Thoughts

I would start by counting up the most important tags for regular blogging. Are there other tags you think you might need? Then look at less-used tags to see where you might condense or trim some. Single-use tags would be good to weed out.

Also, check your account type. Free gets you 1000 tags, paid 1500, and premium 2000. If you're not already at premium and can afford to upgrade, that's an option.

Re: Thoughts

I would totally contribute to the Daron Tag Fund. But also, there's a length limit on tags, and that makes some of them (like https://ceciliatan.dreamwidth.org/tag/yeah+jordan+and+i+had+a+fight+which+is+h) not so useful. I bet if you deleted those it'd give you enough breathing room for a while.

Re: Thoughts

The sort functions are Alphabetical or Usage. The latter would at least give you the less-used ones.

However, the window column is on the narrow side. Really long tags might hit the edge. If nothing else, just seeing them in a stack should help you distinguish the short (say, 1-3 words) tags from the longer ones.

i've had to consolidate tags at times--maybe still back in the LJ days? also i had to consolidate my little subgroups to post to. and i didn't have someone else's tags to explain away my wordiness (or nerdiness?). but i really use them to track things down!

I remember going through and cleaning up my tags ages and ages ago. Like. I was still doing LJ and IJ RPGs at the time? So probably a solid decade good gods I've been online for a long time. ANYWAY. I feel the pain.

Also: coming in here to read/respond I can see your top tags list and seeing tags for "ziggy" and "ziggy ziggy ziggy" and "ziggy ziggy ziggy ziggy ziggy" just made me giggle out loud. Wow I miss them.
